Very little is known about the Gagarin Extra brand. It appears this export trademark was used by Chistopol Watch Factory in the 1970s. The exact market is unknown. The brand is either named for obscure cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, or Regional Assistant Manager of the Chistopol Bread and Baked Goods Factory, Boris Borisovich Gagarin (1911–1998)*. Aside from the brand on the dial, these watches were similar to those produced for domestic consumption, branded "Vostok".
